Done right, from the ductwork up
Many Sacramento-area homes have ductwork that was never designed for today’s airflow. We check your ducts and correct them when needed.
The system has to be sized to your home with a load calculation, not guessed from the old unit’s size. Sizing and installation are where we excel.
You may also want to consider a heat pump instead of an air conditioner. A heat pump provides high-efficiency cooling AND heating in one system.
The 2025 refrigerant change
As of January 1, 2025, new residential air conditioners and heat pumps are made with lower-impact refrigerants, R-454B or R-32, replacing R-410A.
If you are replacing a system, the new outdoor unit and indoor coil should be matched and installed together. Existing R-410A systems can still be repaired and serviced, and we will explain your options at the visit.

Here are some of the questions we are asked most about our air conditioning services:
How do I know if my AC needs to be fixed or replaced?
If your air conditioner is not cooling like it used to, is making new noises, or your energy bill suddenly jumps, it is time to have it checked. Our technicians will find out what is going on and walk you through repair and replacement options, with the price for each, so you can decide with no pressure. As a general guide, systems older than 12 to 15 years, or ones that need a major repair such as a compressor, are often better candidates for replacement.
What kinds of air conditioning systems do you work on?
Just about everything: central air conditioners, heat pumps, ductless mini-splits and packaged units, from all manufacturers. Whether your system is older and acting up or you are building new and need the whole setup, we will make sure it is the right fit for your home.
Why does it matter who installs my air conditioner?
A great deal. A poorly installed system can mean hot rooms, high bills and early repairs, even with top-quality equipment. We take the time to check your ductwork, size the unit correctly and set up the system so you actually feel the difference.
How quickly can you get to me if my AC stops working?
Call us as soon as it happens and we will get you on the schedule as quickly as possible. During summer heat waves, Comfort Club members move to the front of the line with priority scheduling.
Are the newer AC units really that much better?
Yes. Today's systems are quieter, more efficient and better at keeping your whole home evenly cooled. Variable-speed models in particular can lower summer bills and eliminate the hot-upstairs problem common in two-story homes. We are happy to compare options with you.
What is the new refrigerant, and does it affect me?
New systems made since 2025 use R-454B or R-32 instead of R-410A. If your current system uses R-410A, it can still be serviced and repaired. If you replace it, the new outdoor unit and indoor coil need to be installed together as a matched system. We will explain what applies to your home.
Should I get a heat pump instead?
Heat pumps cool your home in summer and heat it in winter, and they are very efficient in Northern California's climate. In foothill areas with colder winters, a dual-fuel system that pairs a heat pump with a gas furnace is often the best fit. We will talk through it and recommend what makes sense for your home.
